Swimming, Sunning and Funning…

Reviews of beaches across our beautiful maritime provinces.
My home town province is Nova Scotia. Fortunately for me, I had the wonderful pleasure of spending all my summers on the beaches of northern shores of Prince Edward Island. My family had a cottage rental business located in Stanhope National Park. Once all the chores were completed… I headed to the beach for the day, not returning until 6pm… thats when the life guards left. I swam everyday in salt water from May until September. Salt and Sand are part of my soul.
I did not fully understand how lucky I was to be able to experience this type of childhood.
The water is cold in May, but warm in August. The tourists are thick on the beaches for 2 months, basking in the heat, enjoying the summer, but they don’t know what I know….. the peace in the fall, when the beach is still warm. The rebirth in the spring, when the ice packs are still thick on the shore, not yet melted or retrieved by the tides and taken back out to the sea. The sun feels hot. Thats the beauty… and beautiful it is. It has its own energy. The beach knows who stays and goes. And it always knew me. It is playful, it is peaceful, it is hot, it is majestic. It has heard me cry, it has heard me yell, it has seen me calm. Have you ever yelled your frustrations at the roaring sea. It drowns out your words and lets you know your worries are small…. and then it says… sit… touch the silk of the sand, stress no more, I have heard your roar.
Terrance Bay Beach Souls of a beach
March 22, 2025. Some beaches are homes to souls lost at sea. Growing up in the Maritimes, I have heard many stories about ship wrecks off the cost of Nova Scotia, and well to be honest, I never really cared. With the exception of the Titanic, it was not an interest to me… it was…
Poverty Beach, PEI
August 2024. A great little spot located on the way to Panmure. The day I went I was the only one there. It is about 20 mins from my cottage but I can see it across the water from the cottage. It had rained hard the night before and the sand still had the marks…
St. Peter’s Bay Harbour lighthouse Beach, PEI
All I can say about this is WOW. What a beautiful discovery. Located in the cute little community of St. Peter’s Bay, on the other side of the bay that faces Greenwich beach.. and its free. Yup, no admission fees required. And what a beautiful lighthouse. It was so pretty to walk up the trail…
