Greenwich National Park, Prince Edward Island

5 ***** star beach

I have been going to PEI since 1988 and only discovered this incredible paradise beach during the pandemic summer of 2020. I had seen pictures of the boardwalk and dunes, but never took the time to wander over to St Peters to explore this National Park.

When you arrive at the main gatehouse you can either continue to the lifeguarded beach or turn left and drive to the hiking trails. We choose to explore the hiking trails first. We drove about 2 mins to another parking lot and followed the dunes trail. It is about a 20 min hike through a small wooded area, open fields, a long boardwalk over a salt water marsh that leads to miles and miles of large beautiful sand dunes. I could not believe the incredible beauty this beach has to offer. It was too much for my eyes to see.

The following summer I took my niece and daughter with me to spend the day on the beach. It was a wonderful day. The water was warm, the wind was mild, the sky was blue. I felt like I had stepped into another world.

We hiked in for the day. Very easy, wheelchair accessible. There are no facilities that are close at this end of the beach, so pack a bag with food and water to have with you. We had a lunch and carried our beach chairs with us. The walk is crowded on warm summer day, but most people just do the walk and turn back. The beach was pretty much empty. Very peaceful. I loved every minute of my time here. I walked for about 2 hours on untouched sand.

This is one of my top five beaches to visit. It has breath taking scenery, not over crowded, peaceful and relaxing.

  • Wheel chair accessible-yes
  • parking – yes
  • facilities- yes- located at visitor centre as well as outhouses

  • beach walking- miles and miles of sand

I am a beach lover. Going to the beach is what I do best. My soul dreams of warm water waves in the winter. Diving into the salt water is healing of mind, body and soul. Standing on the edge of earth, the softest earth, as it meets the sea is magical.
