Carters Beach , Port Mouton Nova Scotia

second crescent

This is a hidden gem to our province. Only recently has this stunningly beautiful beach been exposed outside of local knowledge, thanks to social media of course. This beach was incredible to look at. The water is crystal blue and green, the sand is pure white. It looks like a Caribbean beach…. however the water feels like the artic. The water was so cold when we were there. I could not get past the cold. I did manage to dip in just because I could not leave this incredible beach with experiencing the water. However the temperature was just too cold. My legs and face actually ached. I have only been once, but have herd from others that it is generally a beach that has colder waters all through the summer.

It consist of 3 crescent shapes. The first one is sheltered and does empty on a low tide. This is great for the kiddos and actually does heat up a little on hot day. The day we were there it was low tide and it was lovely to wade into the shallower warmer water.

It is also a great beach to do some beach walking and beach combing.

About 2 hours from Halifax ….. follow the 103 down to Port Mouton then take the number 3 to Carters beach rd.

  • parking is limited, very small parking lot… walking long distance if you have to park along road
  • no washroom amenities… sometimes an outhouse is located in the parking lot area
  • no wheel chair access
  • provincial park beach
  • limited access to garbage can
  • swimming is cold
  • shallow wading area, warmer when tide goes out.

This beach has only recently been put on the radar for beach lovers…. due to social media post and pictures. Some local residence have not been overly receptive to the increase of traffic and people the attention has brought to their lovely beach. I mean I can’t say that I blame them. If I had access to such a wonderful paradise with limited exposure, I might get a bit upset with increase of people. I am someone who does love an uncrowded beach.

I do recommend a visit to see this beautiful sand and sea.

I am a beach lover. Going to the beach is what I do best. My soul dreams of warm water waves in the winter. Diving into the salt water is healing of mind, body and soul. Standing on the edge of earth, the softest earth, as it meets the sea is magical.
