Clam Harbour Beach, Lake Charlotte Nova Scotia

September 1 weekend 2021

Clam harbour beach…. what can I say… well I can say a lot!!!. I spent so much time here during the summer of 2020, that I started looking for a cottage in the area. We almost did buy one. The entire area of Lake Charlotte and Clam Harbour reminds me so much of Prince Edward Island. Its an area that feels like the perfect amount of laid back and old school. A lot of charm still exists in the well cared for small mom and pop businesses that have existed since the 1960’s and 70’s.

You follow the number 7 hwy or 107 from Dartmouth. Once you get to Musquodoboit Harbour you turn onto the Marine drive route. Its about 25 mins from this point. This costal drive is breathtaking. Lots of little coves, lots of quaint cottage rentals, lots of camping and Kayaking in this area.

Each time I drive to the beach I would drive by this cute little attraction called Memory Lane Heritage village. I finally made the trek to the village for fathers day and took my dad there for the day. It was so fun. The tiny little village is set up like 1945 post war. They had an antique car show there the day we went to add to the full experience, plus a lovely meal of pork roast. So happy I discovered this little village on my beach adventures… even to just drive by and see the old Esso sign behind the building brings a sense of simpler times.

Let’s talk beach…. lots of beaches. Clam harbour has 1 large main beach and 4 smaller crescent beaches that you can access at the end of the main beach going left of the main boardwalk . Once you reach the end of the large beach you will see a sign that says “trail” This is a beautiful little hiking trail that will lead you to 4 smaller secluded beaches. There is a nick name of “lovers beach” because it has been known to be the perfect spot for the perfect marriage proposals.

The main beach is large, lots of sand, large waves, and plenty of beach walking. There is a small stream that flows from the right of the board walk. If you are there at the perfect amount of high/low tide, you can body float down the little stream. This beach does have life guards from July1 to Sept 1. The water is perfect for swimming and surfing. Often you will see surf rentals and lessons set up in the parking lot. There can be a strong surf.

I honestly cannot believe that I only discovered this beach in the summer of 2020. I mean I knew the name, but just never took the time to go. for some reason I was lead to think this beach was a bit dangerous due to the strong current.

If you walk to the right of the boardwalk all the way to the end, you will discover where the stream starts and flows from, lots of untouched sand, and shelter from any wind. Its a little bit of walk, but worth it.

In early August Clam Harbour is host to one of the provinces larges sand castle building contests. A must see.

There is a picnic area as well as out house washrooms. This beach is also wheelchair accessible. There have been some extensive upgrades to the facilities over the last 2 years.

  • lots of parking- 3 parking lots
  • outhouse facilities
  • wheelchair access with Mobi mat
  • picnic area
  • lifeguards
  • hiking trails
  • surf can be rough
  • surfing rentals
  • sand castle festival
  • smaller pools of water on low tide for small children to swim
  • floating stream

I am a beach lover. Going to the beach is what I do best. My soul dreams of warm water waves in the winter. Diving into the salt water is healing of mind, body and soul. Standing on the edge of earth, the softest earth, as it meets the sea is magical.
