My Daughter and I, made the trip to PEI for the viewing of the Eclipse. There was no better way, in our opinion, to experience the eclipse, then being on the beach. We carefully picked out a spot to view on the west coast of the Island. Originally we were going to go to a beach called Goat beach, but they didn’t allow anyone there until about 3pm. Well…. we arrived at 12noon to make sure we were going to get a good spot. So instead, we drove down the road a little farther and discovered this little piece of sand and water and decided we would set up camp there.
The beach had quite a bit of debris scattered about. Lots of broken glass, evidence of beach fires, wood left over, some garbage, lots of broken shells. Not the best beach to spend a day swimming. However we found a cozy little spot, set up our blanket, set up our picnic and got our solar glasses out and ready.

My daughter, who has been living in the Rocky mountains and the west coast of Canada for the last year, flew home for a 2 week visit. How lucky we were that it was during this exciting time. Being a true Maritimer, she decided to take a little plunge. She wore some water shoes just be extra careful not to get any glass in her feet. It’s still April… the air is warm, but the water was sharpe. At one time I would have made the brave dip, but on this day I was feeling the chill in the air.

When we first arrived, we were the only people on the beach. About 1 hour before the start of the eclipse, cars started to arrive. Very quickly this little tiny beach become quit popular. There were enough people to know something was happening, but not enough to make it to crowded. It was perfect.

There were about 30 people that had gathered at this little beach to view the eclipse. We all sat on our chairs and blankets to witness the full eclipse. It was about 2 hours from start to finish.

I really wasn’t paying attention to all the hype about the eclipse. It was my daughter who brought it to my attention. I remember seeing one as young child, but really didn’t understand. This was magical. When the full eclipse happened everyone on the beach cheered and clapped. It was 1 min of one of natures true magical moments. I am extremely thankful that I was able to experience this with my daughter… sitting on a beach in Prince Edward Island.
